Introduction

Our shop always has multiple projects underway. Priority is based on need, income, and variety. Though casework-cabinetry is what we do most, we also design and make a fair amount of smaller projects such as jewelry boxes, toys, jigsaw puzzles, fret work, and similar stuff. We accept commissioned orders from contractors, orders from friends, among our own projects. We have literally, an endless stream of projects.

Plans

It has been our intention for quite sometime to provide plans of our projects on this web site. However, generally, the plans for our cabinets, furniture, jewlery boxes, and so forth are in my head. I do put some of the designs on paper, including cut lists, but more often than not, I work from my head and a few messy scribblings on notebook paper. With that said, the following are links to a few patterns and plans. Will add to the list as time permits.

• Clock Face Patterns. These are the patterns I use for our Shaker-style clocks.
  
  
• Creche Pattern. You may have to resize to 5.8" wide x 9.6" high. I use Corel PhotoPaint, and have no problem printing the image as is. If you're having difficulty sizing the image, try this one: Creche Pattern 2. You should be able to print this directly from Internet Explorer. The square box in the upper right-hand corner of the image should measure 1" x 1". Of course, you can set the image to any size you desire. I have no idea where this pattern came from, I have been using it for many years.
  
  
• Kayak Plans. The following are scanned pages from old issues of Mechanics Illustrated. Email me if you would like ordering information for full-size patterns, plans, and instructions.

Recent Projects

Here is a list of some of our latest projects for the home, family, and clients:

• Made another boat load (15) of creches and other Christmas projects for Christmas 2003. The creches are always a hit and only take a few minutes to scroll saw.
  
  
• Built several shoe shine boxes using the Keller dovetail jig. Plans and pics on the way.
  
  
• Built several jewlery boxes using the Akeda dovetail jig. Plans and pics on the way.
  
  
• Built a custom sewing chest. Plans and pics on the way.
  
  
• Built a wall display cabinet. Pics on the way.
  
  
• Just started a kitchen remodel. Stay Tuned!
  
  
• Made a five person extension for a dining room table.
  
  
• Made table saw splitters and blade guards for the PM66 and Grizzly 1023S. This project was long over due and took all of about 1 hour to complete. Click here for my article.
  
  
• Made various Christmas presents, including 11 creches, four nameplates, a couple of Jewelry boxes, etc. Click here for pics. Used the Keller dovetail jig to make the Jewelry box dovetail joints.
  
  
• Built a retro table and fence for our Rebel Router table. This improves the Rebel table 100%!
  
  
• Finished the armoire, finally. Click here for pics.
  
  
• Built a 14-foot wood and canvas kayak in June 2001. You can read all about it at our main Kayak Page or our Construction Diary. We had fun making it and fun using it!
  
  
• While in Brazil (9/2000) we visited three woodworking shops of various sizes. Even the smallest shop, complete with dirt floors and chickens underfoot, had remarkably high tech equipment including a stroke sander, shaper, wooden table saw and band saw, etc. None of the shops seemed to use electric or pnuematic hand tools. • I quickly put together a jewelry box (Click Here For Pictures!) for my Mother-in-Law. I ruined the first one just a couple of days before leaving for Brazil, so I fell back to my tried and true box joint design and finished it start to finish in four evenings. Made the box of oak, it measures 9" x 12" x 4-1/2" deep. The lid is a simple frame and panel design. Made mouldings for the feet. The interior is partitioned into six compartments and includes a partitioned sliding box. I finished the box with 3 coats of varnish and paste wax and sprayed the interior bottom with suede-tex.
  
  
• Just finished one of our largest commissioned projects for a Real Estate office. It consisted of an oak, four drawer, legal-sized lateral file cabinet and a separate, but attached, eight door upper unit. The complete unit is 74" wide, 96" tall, and 19-1/2" deep. Design, milling, and assembly time was approximately 40 hours. I did not apply the finish.
  
  
• We made two Shaker wall clocks, one for our parents and the other for Mary (sister) and Ron (brother-in-law). Made them out of maple and stained them cherry. Click here for free clock faces.
  
  
• We built another Wood and Canvas Kayak. See our Kayak page for more info about how to build your own. Soon, I want to begin a stitch and glue kayak. Stay tuned!
  
  
• We remodeled the kitchen. We refaced the lower and upper cabinets with oak veneer and built new oak face frames, doors, drawers, and shelves. It would have been a lot easier to build new cabinets. We also tiled the walls between the counters and upper cabinets, built new counters, put in a new stainless steel sink, faucet, and garbage disposal, new stainless steel stove and hood vent, a white refrigerator (which was a present from our parents), and a new floor. It all started because we wanted a new stove! We plan to build a new oak hutch to match the refaced cabinets and remove the wall paper--but that will have to wait until we finish the armoires and the commissioned items.
  
  
• We finished two oak armoires. We had suspended construction of them to rennovate the kitchen, build the kayak, and complete commissioned items, etc.
  
  
• We made an oak headboard/storage unit for a queen-sized bed.
  
  
• We made two oak bed pedestals. Each pedestal provides two large drawers for clothes and an open area for shoes.
  
  
• We built a large corner - L shaped oak computer desk, hutch, and credenza for Eber's room.
  
  
• We built a "built-in" study desk and wall unit for Kurt's room.
  
  
• We reorganized the shop, added lots of shelves etc. It is still quite messy, but at least it is an organized mess.
  
  
• My Father and I finished the entertainment center for our living room. Lost 5/8" off my left hand middle finger while cutting one of the shelves. A well-designed blade guard would have prevented the accident.
