Step 6:
This end measures about .612". The difference between the two ends is .015". Since I cut four sides, this difference is four times the amount of error. Consequently, the error is only .004" for the length of the cutoff (17") or .001" for every 4 inches of length. Not bad, but we can do better. I loosened my stop block, slipped a piece of paper between the block and the fence, tightened the block, loosened the miter gauge and moved the fence up against the block, and retightened the miter gauge/fence.
